Beginner Referee Training

SRS and the other local soccer clubs train and register referees through the California North Referee Administration (CNRA). CNRA is the official Cal-North State Referee Committee for the United States Soccer Federation Referee Program.

Anyone age 12 yrs and older wanting to become a referee for SRS must complete an 18-hour Entry Level ("grade 8") course. SRS conducts this course annually, typically between January and March. Throughout the year, other local soccer clubs (Mill Valley, Novato, Tiburon, Marin FC) also conduct this course. To sign up for courses outside SRS, go to:
Upon passing the test, you receive a license allowing you to work for the San Rafael Soccer Club as well as other local clubs. SRS refs earn $15 to $35 per game. In addition, if you have played in the SRS in the last 2 years, the league will provide a free referee uniform.
